Chikusa. Describe what happened, please. You confronted Gojyo in the library, and...?
[He sounds as though he's completely tuned out. He sounds, for that matter, as though he's dragging something heavy.
Gojyo's presence is still there at the back of Hakkai's mind, though that surge of misery is muted, muting further, as if to calm, or to lack of feeling. Hakkai's tone is brisk, demanding a report: that, perhaps, will spark Chikusa's instincts into giving one. Or so he hopes.]
[Hakkai really has gotten to know him well, in the time they've been around one another. There's a brief pause as Chikusa takes in the prompting, brain adjusting for the arduous task of remembering. In that time, Hakkai might happen to hear Gojyo's voice, slurred and impaired.]
...I wanted to know what he said to you. He wouldn't say. I took a book of his and he wouldn't tell me still. He wanted it back, and he said...
[There's another moment of silence, a bleed of negativity that shudders through their connection before it's drowned out by numb coldness again.]
[There's a mumble in the background. Is that Gojyo?
The only word Hakkai can distinguish from the mumble is sorry. His voice chills.]
Are you still at the library? I'll be there in a moment.
[The fresh blight across his neck and shoulders burns as though he's been splashed with acid. He takes a breath, setting the pain aside, and focuses; he knows the library, can feel the location of two of his shinki together. He'll appear behind them a few seconds later.]
